These cozy mummy hot dogs wrapped in crispy puff pastry are a fun and nostalgic Halloween treat that combines flaky, buttery pastry with juicy hot dogs and a hint of mustard for flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed (recommend Pepperidge Farm for best flakiness)
  • 8 standard-sized hot dogs (or plant-based substitutes)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes and a touch of tang)
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tbsp water (egg wash for golden finish)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting surface when rolling pastry)
  • Black sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for decorating eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour your countertop and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets gently to about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick.
  3. Cut the puff pastry into strips about ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide and 6 inches (15 cm) long.
  4. Wrap each hot dog by spiraling the puff pastry strips around it, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy wrappings.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush each mummy hot dog gently with egg wash.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed. Start checking at 12 minutes to avoid burning.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes.
  9. Add eyes using a small dot of mustard or press in black sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use to prevent stickiness. Don’t wrap hot dogs too tightly to allow pastry to puff. Add mustard or seeds for eyes after baking to prevent burning. Avoid overcrowding the baking sheet for even baking. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in an oven or toaster oven to maintain crispness. Do not microwave to avoid soggy pastry.
