Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 pound)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • Fresh dill or parsley sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line your sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the asparagus: rinse and snap off woody ends. Toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper directly on the sheet pan. Spread in a single layer on one side of the pan.
  3. Make the herb mixture: in a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons olive oil, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon chopped dill, 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, 1 teaspoon lemon zest, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Stir until it forms a paste.
  4. Season the salmon: pat fillets dry with paper towels. Place on the other side of the sheet pan, skin-side down if using skin-on. Spoon herb mixture evenly over each fillet.
  5. Add lemon slices: tuck them around the salmon and asparagus on the pan.
  6. Roast for 12-15 minutes. After 8 minutes, flip the asparagus spears with tongs. Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and internal temperature reaches 145°F. Asparagus should be tender-crisp with lightly browned edges.
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with fresh dill or parsley before serving.

Notes

For best results, pat salmon dry and let come to room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking. Don’t overcrowd the pan—use two pans if needed. Fresh herbs are recommended; if using dried, double the amount and add fresh lemon juice at the end. Salmon is perfectly cooked at 145°F; pull at 140°F and let rest for carryover cooking.
