A refreshing and easy summer drink combining juicy watermelon, fresh mint, and bright lemon juice for a sweet and tangy lemonade perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon chunks, seeds removed
  • 1520 fresh mint leaves, washed and gently bruised
  • 4 large lemons, juiced (about 1 cup or 240 ml lemon juice)
  • ½ to ¾ cup granulated sugar (100150 grams), adjust to taste
  • 4 cups cold water (plain or sparkling)
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (about 600 grams) of watermelon into chunks, removing any seeds. Place the chunks into a blender and puree until smooth, about 30 seconds, yielding roughly 2 cups (480 ml) of watermelon juice.
  2. Roll the lemons on the counter to loosen the juice, then cut in half and juice until you have 1 cup (240 ml) of fresh lemon juice. Remove seeds to avoid bitterness.
  3. In a large pitcher, place the mint leaves and 2 tablespoons of sugar from your total amount. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, gently press the leaves just enough to release their oils without shredding.
  4. Pour the watermelon juice, lemon juice, remaining sugar, and 4 cups (1 liter) of cold water into the pitcher with the muddled mint. Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar, water, or lemon juice as needed.
  6. Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 1 hour before serving to let flavors meld and mint infuse.
  7. Serve over ice cubes, garnished with a fresh mint sprig or a thin lemon slice.

Notes

Use fresh, vibrant mint leaves and bruise gently to avoid bitterness. Adjust sugar based on watermelon sweetness. Chill for at least 1 hour for best flavor. For a sparkling version, replace water with sparkling water before serving. Strain if you prefer a smoother texture without pulp or mint bits.
