Ingredients

Scale
  • 4–5 medium carrots, peeled and cut into thin strips
  • 4–5 celery stalks, cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 large English cucumber, sliced into rounds
  • 6–8 radishes, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin rings
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into thin rings
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup small broccoli florets
  • 1 cup small cauliflower florets
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried chives (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip first: In a small bowl, combine 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup buttermilk, 2 tablespoons fresh dill, 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dried chives, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Whisk until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the vegetables.
  2. Prepare the vegetables: Wash all vegetables thoroughly. Peel the carrots and cut them into thin strips about 3 inches long and 1/4 inch wide. Cut the celery into 3-inch pieces. Slice the cucumber into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Thinly slice the radishes. Cut the bell peppers into thin rings. Halve the cherry tomatoes. Break the broccoli and cauliflower into small florets.
  3. Arrange the spider web: Place the small bowl of ranch dip in the center of your round platter. Create the spokes of the web using the carrot strips, arranging them evenly around the dip bowl like rays of sun, extending from the bowl to the edge of the platter. Aim for 8 to 12 spokes.
  4. Create the web rings: Using the cucumber rounds, create concentric circles around the dip bowl, weaving them between the carrot spokes. Start with a circle closest to the bowl, then work your way outward. Leave small gaps between the cucumber rounds so the carrot spokes are still visible.
  5. Fill in the sections: Between the web rings, arrange the remaining vegetables. Place the celery pieces along the spokes, radish slices in the curved sections, bell pepper rings around the edges, and cherry tomatoes and florets in the outer sections. Create a visually balanced pattern with contrasting colors and textures.
  6. Add the finishing touches: Place a small plastic spider on the dip bowl or near the edge of the web for a festive touch. You can also use black olives cut into spider shapes. Sprinkle a little extra fresh dill over the dip for color.
  7. Serve immediately or refrigerate: This veggie tray is best served within an hour of assembly. If making ahead, prepare all vegetables and dip separately, then assemble just before serving.

Notes

For best results, soak vegetables in ice water for 10-15 minutes before slicing to keep them crisp. Let the ranch dip rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Use a damp paper towel under the dip bowl to prevent sliding. The web design can be adapted to any round platter or even a pizza pan.
