A quick and easy honey garlic salmon bowl ready in 20 minutes with one-pan cooking, simple pantry ingredients, and a sticky-sweet-salty sauce that makes it a perfect weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine, brown, quinoa, or cauliflower)
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli
  • 1/2 cup edamame
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start your rice first: If using a rice cooker, get it going. For stovetop, rinse 1 cup jasmine rice under cold water until clear, add to a pot with 1 1/2 cups water, bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 12-15 minutes.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. In a separate tiny bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Set both aside.
  3. Prep the salmon: Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Sear the salmon: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When shimmering, place salmon skin-side down (if skin-on). Cook without moving for 4 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until just cooked through.
  5. Add the sauce: Reduce heat to low. Pour honey garlic sauce around the salmon. Let bubble for 1 minute, then add cornstarch slurry. Stir gently until sauce thickens and becomes glossy (about 30 seconds). Spoon some sauce over the salmon.
  6. Steam the broccoli: While sauce thickens, steam broccoli in microwave with 2 tablespoons water in a covered bowl for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.
  7. Assemble the bowls: Divide cooked rice among four bowls. Top each with a salmon fillet, extra sauce, steamed broccoli, edamame, sesame seeds, and sliced green onions.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best sear. Watch sauce carefully as honey can burn quickly. Use low-sodium soy sauce to avoid overly salty sauce. Prep garnishes ahead of time. Serve immediately for best texture.
