A quick and easy mulled wine recipe that’s ready in just 15 minutes, featuring cinnamon and star anise for a cozy, comforting drink perfect for cold weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine (Merlot or Zinfandel recommended)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 2 tablespoons brandy or orange liqueur (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the wine into a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, orange slices, and optional brandy or orange liqueur.
  3. Drizzle in the honey or maple syrup and stir gently.
  4. Heat over medium heat until the wine reaches a gentle simmer (small bubbles around the edges), about 8 to 10 minutes. Do not boil.
  5. Stir occasionally to help the honey dissolve and spices infuse.
  6. Taste after 10 minutes and adjust sweetness or spice as desired.
  7. Remove from heat immediately once the flavor is balanced.
  8. Ladle into mugs, ensuring each mug gets a cinnamon stick and star anise for garnish. Serve hot.

Notes

Do not boil the wine as it will cook off the alcohol and make it taste flat. Use a wine you enjoy drinking. For a party, keep warm in a slow cooker on low. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
