  • 1 bag (12 ounces) green candy melts
  • About 40 almond slivers
  • Wax paper or parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Have your pretzel rods and almond slivers ready and within reach.
  2. Melt the candy coating: Place the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth (about 2 minutes total). Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening and stir until combined.
  3. Dip the pretzels: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted candy coating, covering about two-thirds of the pretzel. Let any excess drip off back into the bowl.
  4. Place on prepared sheet: Lay the dipped pretzel on the wax paper. Repeat with the remaining pretzels, working in batches of about 10 at a time.
  5. Add the fingernail: While the candy coating is still wet, press an almond sliver onto the tip of the dipped end, positioning it like a fingernail with the pointed end facing outward. Press gently to secure.
  6. Create the knuckle lines: Using the back of a knife or a toothpick, gently press lines into the wet candy coating to create knuckle wrinkles (2-3 lines about halfway down the finger).
  7. Add the ‘blood’ detail: Once all the fingers are assembled and the coating has set (about 10 minutes), use a toothpick dipped in red food coloring gel to add a small line of ‘blood’ at the base of each fingernail.

Notes

Work in small batches (10 at a time) so the coating doesn’t set before adding fingernails. If candy coating is too thick, add a teaspoon of coconut oil. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. Do not refrigerate. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
