A quick and easy Halloween punch with a dramatic dry ice effect that creates a fog rolling across the table like a haunted swamp. This sweet, citrusy, and refreshing drink features a creamy finish from lime sherbet and is perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP)
  • 1 quart pineapple juice (unsweetened)
  • 1.5 quarts lime sherbet (bright green brand like Blue Bell or Breyers)
  • Green food coloring (optional, gel-based)
  • 510 pounds dry ice
  • Gummy worms or spiders (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill the lemon-lime soda and pineapple juice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
  2. Place the punch bowl or cauldron on a stable table, ensuring nothing above it could be damaged by the fog.
  3. Pour the chilled pineapple juice into the punch bowl. Slowly add the lemon-lime soda to minimize fizzing. Stir gently with a ladle. If using green food coloring, add a few drops and stir until evenly distributed.
  4. Scoop the lime sherbet into the punch bowl in large dollops. Do not stir it in completely; let it float and melt slowly to create a creamy, swampy texture.
  5. Put on safety gloves. Using tongs, carefully break the dry ice into smaller chunks (about 1-2 inches or golf ball size). Never use a hammer or bare hands.
  6. Gently drop the dry ice chunks into the punch bowl using tongs. Do not let the dry ice touch the sides of the bowl. Add 3-5 chunks for a continuous smoking effect.
  7. Drop a few gummy worms or spiders into the punch bowl for garnish. Place the ladle in the bowl and let guests serve themselves. Warn everyone not to drink the dry ice; it should be completely sublimated (about 5-10 minutes) before anyone takes a sip.

Notes

Handle dry ice with care: never touch with bare skin, store in a cooler with lid slightly cracked (not airtight), and ensure it fully sublimates before drinking. For best fog effect, add dry ice right before guests arrive and replenish every 20-30 minutes. The punch base (without sherbet and dry ice) can be made up to 2 days ahead and refrigerated.
