This bright, tangy cranberry sauce gets a kick from fresh ginger and orange, with maple syrup adding natural sweetness. It’s quick, easy, and perfect for making ahead—the flavors deepen overnight for an unforgettable holiday side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: rinse cranberries, zest and juice the orange, grate the ginger, and measure maple syrup and water.
  2. Combine cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, grated ginger, maple syrup, water, and salt in a medium saucepan. Stir well.
  3. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a gentle simmer (small bubbles, cranberries start to pop), about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer gently for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Check consistency: sauce will thicken more as it cools. Simmer 2–3 minutes longer for thicker sauce, or add a splash of water/orange juice for thinner.
  6. Taste and adjust: add more maple syrup for sweetness, more ginger for spice, or extra orange zest for brightness.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool completely in the pan. Transfer to a glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate.

Notes

Make a day ahead for best flavor. The sauce thickens as it cools. For a spiced version, add a cinnamon stick and two star anise while simmering. For a boozy twist, stir in 2 tablespoons bourbon or Grand Marnier after removing from heat.
